Megh Roy Choudhury

West Bengal

Wildlife Photographer • Conservation Advocate

Megh Roy Choudhury is a Kolkata-based wildlife photographer with a PhD in English Literature. Since 2009, she has travelled across India and the world, from Madagascar to Borneo capturing mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and more through her Canon R-series system.

A former academic who took voluntary retirement to pursue wildlife and philanthropy full-time, Megh is now one of India’s most recognised wildlife photographers. Her work has been widely published in BBC Wildlife Magazine, Smithsonian Magazine, National Geographic, Sanctuary Asia, Canon, Animal Planet, Smart Photography, WildSojourns, and more.

She is the Founder and Chief Organiser of the WildSojourns Nature Awards and Festival - one of Asia’s most significant wildlife photography contests. Megh also serves as the Director of WildSojourn Admodum, Editor-in-Chief of WildSojourns magazine, and Chief Trustee of the Chinu Datta Gupta Memorial Foundation. She has judged numerous competitions, both in India and abroad, and is a recognised influencer for ZEISS and thinkTANK.

In 2024, she was a finalist at NHM Wildlife Photographer of the Year, CUPOTY, Sienna, and Asferico. She also holds a Certificate of Merit from DJMPC (2015).

Megh’s passions extend far beyond photography - from reading, classical dance, and music to swimming, gardening, and writing. Through it all, she remains deeply committed to responsible photography and the values of humility, respect, and conservation.
