About Mentor

Sayantan Mondal

West Bengal

Sayantan Mondal is a passionate wildlife photographer and a medical physicist by profession, currently based in Cuttack, Odisha. Balancing a demanding career as  'radiotherapy department’ with his love for the natural world, Sayantan has found a rare harmony between science and storytelling, capturing moments in the wild that are as intricate and powerful as the life he works to protect.

His journey into wildlife photography began in 2020 through mobile photography and gradually evolved into a more serious pursuit using a mirrorless system since October 2024. From the lush wetlands of Purbasthali and Mangalajodi, to the dense greens of Kaziranga, Kuldiha, and Satkosia Tiger Reserve, Sayantan has explored a vast range of Indian ecosystems with patience and curiosity. His macro shots, bird photography, and wildlife frames reflect an eye for detail and a deep respect for his subjects.

One of Sayantan’s works was selected for the 35 Awards 2024 Catalogue, where he ranked among the Top 10 photographers from Kolkata, Top 35 in India, and Top 100 globally in the wildlife category, a remarkable recognition for someone who began his journey with a phone camera. He also secured 1st position in the Creative Category for mobile photography and has participated in two exhibitions, with more on the horizon.

Beyond photography, Sayantan is a creative soul who enjoys editing photos and videos, watching films, listening to music and audio stories, and exploring new places. He is a strong believer in lifelong learning and is deeply drawn to adventure and storytelling both visual and emotional.

Raised in West Midnapore and now living in Kolkata, Sayantan is supported by a close-knit family. He lives with his mother and younger brother, while honoring the memory of his late father, a high school librarian who inspired his love for learning and observation.

As a mentor at Wild By Nature, Sayantan brings a grounded, warm, and enthusiastic energy to the community. He is comfortable guiding new photographers both in person and online and is passionate about making wildlife photography more accessible to anyone with a love for nature no matter their background or equipment.
