Workshop Overview:
This workshop is a part of Wild By Nature's upcoming exhibition Frames From The Wild - Edition II. On Day 3, this workshop will be held at Art At Central Gallery as a part of our exhibition, powered by Canon.
Most wildlife photographs document a species. Very few tell a story. The difference isn't gear or location - it's how the photographer sees, thinks, and composes in the moment.
This session draws on Swaroop Singha Roy's experience as a Canon India Explorer and award-winning nature photographer whose work spans macro, avian, and mammal photography. It introduces a creative framework built around composition, light, mood, and visual storytelling - moving participants beyond conventional wildlife documentation toward images that evoke emotion and narrative.
Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of how to use light as a storytelling device, turn habitat into narrative, anticipate behaviour for stronger compositions, and develop a personal visual identity. An optional interactive segment allows participants to share their own photographs for live review and constructive one-on-one feedback from Swaroop.
What You'll Learn:
- Composition & creative vision:
Why most wildlife photos look the same - and how to break the pattern Working with negative space and framing Using the environment as a creative tool, not just a backdrop Rethinking conventional wildlife composition
- Light, mood & emotion:
Reading natural light in the field Shooting for mood over technical detail Exposing for emotion rather than accuracy How light shapes the story your image tells
- Visual storytelling & behaviour:
Moving from single shots to narrative sequences Observing and anticipating animal behaviour Creating images that make people feel something, not just identify a species Creative techniques across macro, birds, and big cat photography
- Live portfolio review:
Participant photograph submissions One-on-one feedback from Swaroop Observation-led constructive discussion Building a visual signature that's yours alone
